Colorado Wilderness Rides And Guides announces 2020 - 2021 AIARE Avalanche Education Courses 2020 - 2021 AIARE Avalanche Awareness and Education (Denver, Boulder, Golden, Estes Park) AIARE Level 1 Course / AIARE Level 2 Course / AIARE Avalanche (Companion) Rescue Course / Avalanche Awareness / AIARE Level 1 re-fresher Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides is a Colorado avalanche education leader in avalanche safety and education, with nearly two decades of experience providing top-quality winter education across the Front Range. We’re proud to present our 2020 – 2021 AIARE Level I, II, Rescue, and Skills Update Courses in keeping with the tradition of sterling avalanche safety training that we are known for.

For any outdoor enthusiast, traveling safely in a winter environment is paramount. These accredited American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) courses (AIARE Level 1, AIARE Level 2, Avalanche Rescue, and Avalanche Awareness) provide an introduction and opportunity for developing essential decision-making skills for avalanche hazard management. Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides offers five recreational training courses:

  • AIARE Level 1

  • AIARE Level 2

  • AAIRE Avalanche Rescue Course (aka Companion Rescue)

NOTE:  Our courses fill up, so register early!

Indoor classes are held in Boulder on Wednesday and Thursday, from 6:00 pm -10:00 pm. Field days, which are either in Rocky Mountain National Park or Roosevelt National Forest, are held on Saturday and Sunday, from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.

COVID 19-Update Note: We most likely with be having Wednesday and Thursday evening indoor classroom via zoom and are working on a few outlines to maximize participant experience and learning and will have more details in the coming month.  
Rate:

$515 per participant.

Our AIARE Level I Courses are designed to fit around a typical workday schedule in order to maximize learning time around everyday life, with two four hour classroom sessions in our office in Gunbarrel, North Boulder, and two full-day field days in Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest. In addition, we have partnered with Backcountry Access (BCA) to provide our students with the latest and best in avalanche beacons, probes, and shovels, which are available for rent to our students for the duration of the course at no additional charge. AIARE Level I is meant to teach the fundamentals of avalanche safety including reading terrain, choosing safe ascent and descent routes, mitigating hidden dangers, and learning to locate and rescue a buried companion. Although we love the mountains, sometimes the mountains don’t love us, and we want to be sure that we are providing the best way to find and mitigate dangerous situations.  

Level 2 Course Dates:

March 12-14, 2021 (Fri, Sat, Sun) Others to be added - check back in September 2020.

Rate:

$545 per participant.

Avalanche Rescue Course Dates:

$210 per participant.

AIARE Level 1 re-fresher - Update your skills - 1 day 

This is a one day refresher if you have taken a AAIRE level 1 within the last three years and want a one day field day intensive to to update and/or refresh your skills.

Rate:

$210 per participant.
