Wild Basin & Thunder Lake
Nestled within the splendor of Rocky Mountain National Park, the Wild Basin trailhead beckons adventurers with its unparalleled beauty. Embark on a journey along this scenic path and behold the wonders of nature: meandering streams, pristine lakes (including Ouzel Lake and Thunder Lake), secluded peaks, and a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers. Within just three miles, encounter the majestic spectacle of three captivating waterfalls: Copeland Falls, Calypso Cascades, and Ouzel Falls. Sandbeach Lake
If you want something a bit more relaxing than a 30-mile exploration, our three-day Sandbeach Lake adventure might be right up your alley. Like its name suggests, Sandbeach Lake boasts a stretch of white sand that wraps around the lake, providing a picturesque and tropical feel high in the Rockies. Surrounded by lush evergreen forests, this lake is situated in the shadow of Long's Peak and is the perfect summer destination for those looking for a scenic and adventurous getaway. The 4.2-mile trail from the trailhead to the lake is manageable for most and can be easily completed in 2 days, although you can turn it into a 4-day adventure by adding additional activities such as fly fishing, peak ascents, and wilderness survival training. The lake offers spectacular day hikes and great fishing opportunities, making it the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors and escape from the daily grind.
