A trip to Colorado doesn’t always leave room for a full day in the mountains. Maybe you’re in Denver for a conference, spending a weekend in Boulder, have a few hours before a flight, or simply want to experience Colorado’s outdoors without committing an entire day to a strenuous hike.

That’s exactly where Red Rocks fits in.

Located in Morrison just outside Denver, Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre is famous for its concerts, but the landscape surrounding the amphitheater is an experience of its own. Towering red sandstone formations, Front Range views, local trails, and Colorado history make it possible to get a real taste of the outdoors surprisingly close to the city.

Our Red Rocks: Hike Beyond the Amphitheatre experience was designed around that idea, with flexible itineraries ranging from about 1 to 3 hours depending on how much time you have.

If You Have About 90 Minutes: Red Rocks Highlights

You don’t need half a day to get outside.

Our Red Rocks Highlights itinerary takes approximately 1.25–1.5 hours and focuses on an easy, scenic walk through some of the park’s signature landscapes. Along the way, there’s time to stop for photos, take in the sandstone formations and learn a little more about the landscape from your local guide.

This option is especially useful for travelers working around a packed itinerary. Conference attendees can fit it around meetings, families can get outside without committing to a long hike, and first-time Colorado visitors can experience Red Rocks as more than just a quick stop at the amphitheater.

It’s short, but it still feels like you actually got out and explored Colorado.

If You Have Two Hours: Classic Red Rocks

With a little more time, our Classic Red Rocks itinerary offers a more complete hiking experience.

Over approximately two hours, you’ll explore farther into the sandstone landscape with stops for scenic overlooks, photos and a snack along the way. Your guide can also introduce some of the geology, history, plants and wildlife that make this part of the Front Range unique.

For a quick Denver or Boulder trip, two hours can be a sweet spot. It gives you enough time to settle into the trail and experience the park beyond its most visited areas without taking over your entire day.

Pair it with a morning in Denver, an afternoon exploring Golden or Morrison, or dinner back in Boulder and you’ve still got plenty of room in your itinerary.

If You Have Three Hours: Red Rocks Extended

If your schedule has a little more breathing room, the Red Rocks Extended option turns a quick visit into a more immersive half-day adventure.

Over approximately 2.5–3 hours, your guide can add more trail mileage, viewpoints, geological features and interpretive stops. There’s also more flexibility to shape the hike around what interests you most.

Want to cover more ground? We can hike farther. More interested in photography? We can prioritize viewpoints and time for photos. Want a relaxed introduction to hiking in Colorado? The pace and route can be adjusted accordingly.

It’s a great option when Red Rocks is one of the main outdoor experiences of your trip, rather than just another stop along the way.

One Hike Doesn't Have to Fit Everyone

One of the biggest advantages of a guided Red Rocks experience is that the itinerary doesn’t have to be identical for every group.

Our guides can adjust the route, pace, stops and focus based on your group’s interests and desired activity level. A family visiting Colorado for the first time may want a relaxed scenic walk, while a group of friends may want more mileage. Corporate and conference groups can use the experience as an opportunity to get outside and connect away from meeting rooms, while photographers may want to spend more time at particular viewpoints.

Red Rocks offers enough variety to make all of those experiences possible without traveling deep into the mountains.

Why Red Rocks Works So Well for a Short Colorado Trip

When you only have a few days—or even a few hours—location matters.

A longer mountain adventure can involve significant drive time, changing weather, higher elevations and a much bigger portion of your day. Red Rocks offers a different option: an iconic Colorado landscape close enough to the Denver metro area to realistically fit between the other things you came here to do.

It’s also approachable for a wide range of visitors. Our Red Rocks hikes are beginner-friendly, and guides can adjust the route and pace based on the group. That makes the experience particularly well suited for first-time Colorado visitors, families, friends, conference attendees and groups with different hiking experience levels.

And because we provide a professional local guide, water, snacks, basic safety equipment and a customized route, you don’t have to spend your limited time figuring out where to hike or how to make the most of the park.

Make a Few Hours in Colorado Count

You don’t need to disappear into the mountains for an entire day to experience what makes Colorado special.

Whether you have 90 minutes, two hours or most of a morning or afternoon, Red Rocks offers a chance to step onto the trail, walk among massive sandstone formations and see a different side of one of Colorado’s most recognizable destinations.

Choose the itinerary that fits your schedule, or let us customize the experience around your trip.
