Now that the Tour de France is underway, we have been receiving increased bike tour trip inquiries. Although people love the Classics, Giro, and other professional races, the Tour de France seems to increase the public’s interest in cycling and bike tours a notch higher.
Many of our registrants for Colorado Bike Tours, Multiday Colorado Mountain Biking trips, and our USA Pro Cycling Bike Tour are always asking how they should be training and what could they do to get in shape for their upcoming bike tours. For people that want a customized program, we recommend using one of our partners, Matt McNamara, USA Cycling Certified ELITE Coach and owner of Sterling Sports Group, for a personal customized program. http://www.sterlingwins.com/
Matt will work with you to design a truly customized program as he has done with great success over with many of our riders over the past 5 years. He trains most of our clients remotely, and if you are in California’s Bay Area, he will be doing lactate testing on July 9th and 10th.
If you browsing the internet and are interested in a free basic 8 week cycling training outline for multi-day rides, check out this one at bicycling magazine: http://www.bicycling.com/training-nutrition/training-fitness/your-training-plans?page=0,1
Proper training has multiple benefits: decreased chance of injury, improved recovery, and better performance. So get out and ride, and make sure to focus on being consistent with your training prior to your multi-day tours.
