Talia Joy Castellano was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 7.
She started doing makeup tutorials on YouTube in 2011, sharing both her love of all things beautiful and stories about her life with cancer. She wore makeup to help her feel beautiful after she lost all her hair to chemo. “Makeup is my wig,” she said. Her positive attitude won her many fans.
Talia was made an honorary Covergirl, and was Ellen Degeneres’ personal correspondent at the iHeart Radio music festival. She designed her own clothing line, “That Bald Chick,” with LA-based Urbana Chappa. She was interviewed for various magazines and television shows, becoming the voice of childhood cancer and inspiring millions.
In August 2012, Talia was diagnosed with a secondary cancer, MDS preleukemia. Doctors told her there were no options to fight, but she went ahead with treatments, because, as she used to say, “A little fish once told her to just keep swimming.”
lost her battle to cancer on July 16, 2013. She was 13.
After her passing, Talia’s family posted her bucket list to Facebook. Inspired by the story of this beautiful girl, Talia’s many fans began doing the items on her list and posting pictures of their adventures to her Facebook page, Angels for Talia.
We at CWRAG, like so many others, were truly touched by Talia’s passion for life. To honor her memory and desire to help rid the world of cancer, we will be donating 10% of proceeds from our horseback riding and rafting trips, two of the items on Talia’s bucket list, to BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation.
Talia raised $125,000 for BASE Camp during her Bring Hope Home campaign, to help establish a permanent home for the charity that provides support for kids with cancer and their families. (Learn more here: http://basecamp.org/)
If you would like to help continue Talia’s legacy by providing hope and comfort to children living with cancer, just mention Talia’s name when you call to set up your horseback riding or rafting trip in August or September, and we will donate 10% of the trip’s proceeds to BASE Camp, and add your memories to the many that are a lasting tribute to the girl who could always find the beauty in life.
